ustria's best black metal band has returned in 2001 with a new opus entitled 'Satanized.' So with a killer album title I was hoping the music would be just as killer. Well I'll be damned, but Abigor has actually progressed and gone and done something new with this album. On Satanized the songs have a lot of that electric feel to the music. Heck they even through in a few really cool guitar riffs here and there. I don't know why, but lately everything I've been listening to is Abigor & Abigor related. Actually the whole Austrian metal scene in general I've been looking into. It all started with Hollenthon a few months back, and now I've discovered several other great Austrian bands to. Well sorry to get unfocused their, but anyways back to Satanized. If any of you have heard the Abigor side project Heidenreich this would be what you would compare it to. Lots of weird electronic keyboard sounds in the background, spoken passages, and some clean vocals. It's nothing really new, and it's almost and exact copy of that side projects two albums. Still this album has its good and bad moments. The good being it's fast and heavy as hell, and has lots of interesting keyboards. One of the bad moments though are some of the keyboards seemed to be a little to distorted, and some times they tend to hurt your ears a little. Or maybe my stereo is just messed up, but I don't know for sure. At any rate if your a devoted Abigor fan you will most certainly enjoy this change...

ie zwei Jahre Wartezeit haben sich gelohnt. ABIGOR haben noch nie enttäuscht, und brechen mit dieser Tradition auch auf "SATANIZED (A JOURNEY THROUGH COCMIC INFINITY)" nicht. Auf jedem Werk präsentiert man eine etwas andere Facette seiner Kreativität, bleibt jedoch immer deutlich erkennbar ABIGOR. Damit schafft man es, einerseits nicht zu stagnieren, andererseits aber auch sein Wesen nicht zu verändern, ständig ABIGOR-Typisches darzubieten und die Fangemeinde nicht zu enttäuschen. Somit löst man praktisch einen "unlösbaren" Widerspruch.
"SATANIZED...", der mittlerweile sechste Longplayer und das neunte Output der Band, ist nicht nur besser als der Vorgänger "Channeling The Quintessence Of Satan", sondern stellt eines der besten ABIGOR-Outputs überhaupt dar. Wieder bietet man den norwegischen Trendanhängern die Stirn und wieder ist man Lichtjahre vom typisch skandinavischen Bombast entfernt. Zum Glück hat man im Hinblick auf die Aufnahme das HÖRNIX-STUDIO als Stamm-Aufnahmeort beibehalten und ist so dem typischen Sound treu geblieben, der untergrundig und unkommerziell, aber trotzdem klar und hörbar genug sowie kalt und "krank" klingt. Man deckt nun innerhalb des fest gesteckten ABIGORschen Blackmetalrahmens sämtliche Metalbereiche von klassisch Heavy, Thrash bis Death ab und ist so vielschichtiger. Die typische ABIGOR-Spielweise hat man etwas verfeinert und präsentiert sie technischer als auf den Vorgängern. Es fällt auch auf, dass der Sound etwas "erdiger" geworden ist und mehr heavy klingt. Auch der Gesang ist nun etwas variabler, wobei er aber immer noch typisch krank und nach ABIGOR klingt. Was fällt noch auf? Zum Einen ist der neue Schlagzeuger wirklich gut und bringt interessante Ideen ein, zum Anderen setzt man verstärkt auf Keyboards. Wobei deren Verwendung jedoch stets relativ minimal gehalten wird und dem Gesamteindruck förderlich ist. Zum Glück fällt ihnen keine dominante Rolle zu... Mein absolutes Lieblingsstück ist "Battlestar Abigor", welches wohl nicht zu Unrecht auf Samplern zu Präsentationszwecken seine Verwendung findet. Aber auch andere Stücke hätten getaugt, findet sich doch unter den Kompositionen nur Material der Güteklasse A. Fazit: Pflichkauf für alle Schwarzmetaller!!!

bigor has been one of the most decent and steady bands that not many people talk about. Releasing solid albums one after the other, beginning with 1994's "Verwüstung." Seven years later, these Austrians are still going strong, if not stronger. With a new drummer and referring back to their earlier works, "Satanized" will be one of the best black metal albums you'll hear this year. It displays an excellent production and great sound quality. They've brought back some of the clean vocals and lessened the use of the keyboard/synthesizer. The vocals have also been brought to the forefront, unlike in previous releases. You can also distinctly hear the amount of creativity used in writing the material. They've mixed blazing speed guitars and drums with some pretty good heavy metal riffing. "Battlestar Abigor" is a perfect example of that creativity. The song starts off slow (along with the best drumming parts of the album), and gradually speeds up and gets heavier, then turns into the familiar Abigor speedy black metal, and all of a sudden, it slows down to some amazing heavy/thrash metal riffs, then continues to interchange those two styles throughout the rest of the song. I've always thought it was pronounced "ah-bee-gor" but in this song, they pronounce it "ay-bee-gor." Still, it's easily my favorite song on the album.It may be due to the fact that this album has better production, but the drums sound really good. The double-bass just beats you to a pulp, like many death metal drumming. Other things to point out: really cool lead guitar at the beginning of "Luminescence Of Darkness," and halfway through Nocturnal Stardust the riff sounds like the intro riff to Megadeth's "Kill The King." Also, the female distorted/electronic sounds in Repulsor are pretty cool. Lastly, Peter K. is one very good guitar player. Overall, "Satanized" is definitely Abigor in spirit, plus a few extras.
